Legislation enacted in 2015 requires organizations like AYS to obtain a number of background checks and clearances for all volunteers who work directly with children. This page serves as a resource to understand what is required of AYS volunteers and AYS policies as they pertain to these requirements.
Please contact Josh Mitchell, firstname.lastname@example.org, with any questions or clarifications, and to submit required documentation.
The Abington Youth Soccer League reserves the right to refuse participation for any volunteer who fails to complete or does not pass the required clearances.
The following are required for all AYS head coaches and assistant coaches.
Annual Requirements These must be completed every year by all volunteers.
These must be completed every year by all volunteers. 1. Risk Management (click here). Club name is Abington Youth SL. Please be sure to click on the Age group you are volunteering for as well as the appropriate position (Head Coach/Asst Coach). This information will be automatically received by AYS; there is no need to send any confirmation. 2 Concussion Course (click here). Complete the course to receive the certificate.
Periodic Requirements Complete 1, 2 and 3 or 4 depending on length of residency
1. Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance (click here). Please note that this clearance takes up to 2 weeks to receive after submission. 2. Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Records Clearance (click here). Please select the “Volunteers Only” option. 3. Disclosure Statement Application for Volunteers form (click here). To be completed (sign and date) if you have been a resident of Pennsylvania for more than 10 years. 4. FBI Criminal Background Check (click here). To be completed if you have been a resident of Pennsylvania for less than 10 years.
The above clearances remain valid for 5 years from the date issued. It is the policy of AYS to maintain a single renewal date per volunteer (rather than per clearance). For example, if John Doe’s Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance is dated July 1, 2014, while the Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Records Clearance is dated July 1, 2015, both documents must be renewed by July 1, 2019.
