RECREATIONAL DIVISIONS

Recreational players in AYSL are assigned to the appropriate division based on their birthday.  For each division players may not have turned the indicated age before August 1 of the current year.  For example, a U8 player must not have turned 8 before August 1, but will turn 8 before July 31 of the following year.

U5, U6, U7, U8, U14 and U19 are coed divisions.  U10 and U12 have separate boys and girls divisions.

U5
U5 is an instructional division for our 4 year old future soccer stars. Teams meet only for one hour on Saturdays with an emphasis on teaching the fundamentals of dribbling, passing and shooting.  At least half the time is spent on instruction with the other half spent playing a game. It will be mandatory for any child registered in this division to have a parent with him or her at the field during the instruction. We feel this will be a great way for both the child and the parent to learn the fundamentals of the game while at the same time spending some time together enjoying the game of soccer. Games are held at Stroney Field.

U6
Similar to U5, U6 is an instructional division where players will be taught the fundamentals of soccer such as dribbling, passing and shooting.  Games are only on Saturdays, with generally half the time spent on instruction and half spent playing a soccer game. Games are held at Stroney Field.

U7
In U7 teams begin practicing during the week in addition to games on Saturday.  There will be 3 players and a goalie on the field at the same time and games consist of 4 10-minute quarters. At the midpoint of the season a mid-week game replaces the mid-week practice. Saturday games are held at the Abington Heights Middle School, with weeknight games taking place on the turf field at Hillside Park.

U8
In this division there will be 5 players and a goalie on the field at the same time. Games consist of 4 10-minute quarters. There will be a practice during the week until the middle of the season, when practice is replaced by a mid-week game. Saturday games are held on the turf field at Hillside Park, with weeknight games held at Our Lady of Peace School.

U10
U10 is the first division where the teams are no longer coed. For U10 Girls there will be 6 players and a goalie on the field at the same time, and for U10 Boys there will be 7 players and a goalie. Games continue to be 4 10-minute quarters. Like our other divisions there will be a practice during the week until the middle of the season, when practice is replaced by a mid-week game. Saturday games are held on the turf field at Hillside Park, with weeknight games taking place at Stroney Field.

U12
In U12 we have separate divisions for boys and girls.  There will be 8 players and a goalie on the field at the same time. The games become a little longer in U12, as there will be 4 12-minute quarters. Like our other divisions there will be a practice during the week until the middle of the season, when practice is replaced by a mid-week game. Saturday games are held on the turf field at Hillside Park, with weeknight games taking place at Summit Christian Academy.

U14
U14 is similar to U12, except that U14 is a coed division. There will be 8 players and a goalie on the field, with games consisting of 4 12-minute quarters.  There will be a practice during the week until the middle of the season, when practice is replaced by a mid-week game. Saturday games are held on the turf field at Hillside Park, with weeknight games taking place at Summit Christian Academy.

U19
The U19 division is intended to allow our older players the opportunity to continue to play recreational soccer during their high school years. This division is coed, and 18 year-olds are permitted to play if they are still in high school and not playing on a varsity soccer team.  U19 games are played on the turf field at Hillside Park on Monday evenings and Saturdays.
