VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS

All volunteers – head coaches, assistant coaches, and team mangers – are required to register with Abington Youth Soccer and to complete clearances and additional requirements as outlined below.  Abington Youth Soccer reserves the right to refuse participation for any volunteer who does not successfully complete all volunteer requirements.

All clearances and other documents will be uploaded to your profile in GotSport, and then approved by the AYS Safety Officer.   Please review the instructions below on how to obtain required clearances and documentation, and how to upload to GotSport.

Before uploading clearances you must first be registered as a Coach.  Clearance information will not display on your dashboard until the coach registration is completed.  Click the buttons below to complete Coach registration, and to access your GotSport Profile.  From your profile click on your Dashboard, from which you will see the list of required clearances.

The following are required for all AYS volunteers:

  1. Clearances – Pennsylvania Act 153 requires organizations like AYS to collect clearances from all volunteers who work directly with children.  These clearances are valid for a period of 5 years.  Please see Pennsylvania Act 153 Required Clearances below for additional information on how to complete these requirements, and contact william.h.james.iii@gmail.com with any questions.  These documents will be uploaded individually to your GotSport profile. Click 'More Info' next to each requirement from your dashboard.

  2. Concussion Course – complete the CDC concussion course. This is an annual requirement and must be dated for 2023.  The course can be launched from your GotSport dashboard.

  3. SafeSport Training – complete the SafeSport Abuse Prevention Training.  This is an annual requirement and must be dated for 2023.  A refresher course is available if you have previously completed this training.  The course can be launched from your GotSport dashboard.

  4. EPYSA Risk Management - Click 'More Info' from your GotSport dashboard and complete the form.

Pennsylvania Act 153 Required Clearances

Complete 1, 2 and 3 or 4 depending on length of residency:

  1. Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance (click here). Please note that this clearance takes up to 2 weeks to receive after submission.

  2. Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Records Clearance (click here). Please select the “Volunteers Only” option. After the request has been processed you can download the clearance by clicking the link under Control #, then click Certification Form, then Save as a PDF.

  3. Disclosure Statement Application for Volunteers (click here). To be completed (sign and date) if you have been a resident of Pennsylvania for more than 10 years.

  4. FBI Criminal Background Check. To be completed if you have been a resident of Pennsylvania for less than 10 years. Please note there is a fee for this clearance ($20-25) and the clearance can take several weeks to be completed after being fingerprinted. Click here to pre-register using the service code 1KG6ZJ.  More information is available at the DHS website (click here).

The above clearances remain valid for 5 years from the date issued. It is the policy of AYS to maintain a single renewal date per volunteer (rather than per clearance).  For example, if John Doe’s Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance is dated July 1, 2018, while the Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Records Clearance is dated July 1, 2019, both documents must be renewed by July 1, 2023.

Thank you for helping AYS to comply with the state requirements, and for your participation in the success of our league!
